MT SOLITARY (VIA THE RUINED CASTLE) Sat/Sun OCTOBER 10-11, 2026
A True Blue Mountains Adventure
Due to the very early start time- we have organised the night before’s accommodation.
This extraordinary 10-12 hr full-day hike in the Blue Mountains offers some of the best views and trails. We begin this challenging hike from Narrow Neck Lookout near Katoomba, making our way to the steep descent of the Golden Stairs. Experience the early morning sounds of the bush awakening as we follow the undulating trail to the base of the western ridge of Mt Solitary. We will stop to refuel and enjoy a cuppa before the exhilarating hike up Mt Solitary.
The steep climb up Mt Solitary will have us working together as we rock scramble up the Korrowall Knife Edge, finishing at Melville’s Lookout with stunning views, south towards Jamison Valley, Wild Dog mountains, and the unspoilt Kanangra-Boyd wilderness. Here we’ll take time to enjoy this special location and relax over a scrumptious lunch.
Taking our time to descend Mt Solitary via the same route allows for more spectacular views. We return along the same trail, ending with a steady ascent of the Golden Stairs. From the top, it’s an easy hike back to our cars.
To fully enjoy this day, you must have a high level of fitness, regularly participate in Trek Training, enjoy working as a team, and are up for the challenges of extended rock scrambling. This Diamond Day is a must-do for Diamonds who want to take their hiking to the next level and gain invaluable experience for a multi-day hiking trip.
