Follow the footsteps of a 19th‑century railway line as we journey through towering sandstone cuttings and the atmospheric 84‑metre Box Vale Tunnel, carved straight through the mountain. The terrain opens into lush Southern Highlands forest before we descend to the spectacular Forty Foot Falls, complete with creek crossings, rock steps, and a short ladder climb, just enough challenge to make the reward even sweeter.
This 13 km hike is the perfect blend of scenery, adventure, and achievable challenge, ideal for building trail confidence while soaking up some of the region’s most unique natural and historic features. Whether you're chasing fitness, fun, or a photogenic day out, this trek delivers big impact in a short‑day package.

Meeting Location: Box Vale Trail Walking Track Carpark Box Vale Rd, Woodlands
Maximum number: 15
Difficulty: Moderate– the tracks are a mix of bush and fire trails, including undulating sections. You need good balance and to be comfortable on uneven terrain.
Fitness Requirements: Good level of fitness, good general health.

WHAT TO BRING
Bring in a small backpack (please allow space for a 20cm x 15cm lunch box provided):
2-3 litres of drinking water (including electrolytes)
Thermos of hot water (for your tea/coffee), or ready-made and a mug
Rain Jacket and warm layers
Cap/Hat
Headtorch - fully charged (mandatory)
Sunscreen
Personal Medications
Tissues, wet wipes, and clip lock bags (for toileting). Our leave no trace policy requires you take out all waste such as toilet paper and wet wipes. Coaches will carry a shovel and spare toilet paper.
Poles (optional, but recommended)
Boots or trail runners
