Congratulations to this incredible team of Diamonds, who tackled it all with strength, grace, and fantastic team spirit.
Among this supportive group of diamonds, we also shared this experience with a particularly strong mother and daughter duo, Merie and Brittany.
Here’s a glimpse of the wonderful memories from Britt’s point of view:
My friends often comment how amazing my mother is. They’re right too. She’s fitter than most of us and has some pretty impressive accomplishments under her belt. Whether it’s racing up and down the Sublime track, trekking in Kokoda or the Great Southern X mum does more than most women I know half her age.
Taking on the Hump Ridge Track with mum felt like an easy decision. Most of my childhood memories (and even some as an adult) are tied up with activity, nature and the outdoors. Whether it was days spent in the surf, swimming laps, bushwalks, dancing or skiing with mum, and the four of us kids by extension, were always moving. This trip felt like our old skiing trips at the lodge in Perisher, we would meet new people, ski, and eat before getting up and doing it all again the next day.
Like those trips, my favourite moments were always when we would find ourselves alone. It is such a special experience to be in magical place like the Hump Ridge. For three days, we were surrounded by thousands of years of rainforest, running river,s and enchanting bird song. You step through an almost alien-like world with the comfort, love, and security of one of your favourite people. I’m sure this experience will become a core memory that will feed my soul for many years to come. It will be a moment in time I will be able to reflect on and hold close the special bond that we have as mother and daughter.
